Oh! Earlier this week, I heard some news which made me very sad: my old friend from back in NZ, George the Bernese Mountain Dog, just found out that he’s got a cancer sickie!
It is a kind of cancer called Malignant Histiocytosis / Histiocytic Sarcoma, which is more common in Bernese Mountain Dogs (& sometimes in Rottweilers, Golden Retrievers & Flat-Coated Retrievers) – you can read more about this sickie here: http://www.histiocytosis.ucdavis.edu/
George is a very brave doggie & he is going to have Chemotherapy Treatment now to help treat it.
You have to have the Chemo every 3 weeks, for many weeks – sometimes even months, but they say that Chemo works very well for doggies with this kind of sickie – so all paws crossed for George!
George is the coolest doggie – he is such a gentleman and so “cruisey” – the humans used to joke that maybe George was “smoking something” behind their backs ‘coz he was always the most relaxed, easy-going doggie you could ever meet. Even when other doggies were grumpy & nasty to him (like right in his face!), he would just shrug and turn away with his big smile and trot off to say hello to somebody else!
Me & George have been friends for a long, long time – and back in NZ, we did all sorts of fun things together!
…group walks with other doggie friends at Waiatarua Reserve…
…birthday parties (my 6th birthday party! )…
…modelling at a photoshoot for Rachael Hale’s new book…
…more fun at the park…
….and competing together in the K9 Games! Here’s a movie some of you might have seen before – but it’s still great fun to watch! It’s me & George & some other friends playing ‘Doggie Dash’ – which uses an exciting race to help practise our Stay / Wait , Recall and Sit! The doggie with the fastest recall when called and the fastest sit over the finish line is the winner. Guess who was the winner?
If the movie doesn’t play, try here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukBC_W1XHP4
I’m sending lots of healing slobbers to George and we’ll be thinking of him and wishing that the treatment works well and he’ll feeling a lot better soon, so that he’ can get back to doing lots of fun stuff – even if we can’t do it together anymore.
My humans have also been out doing lots of fun stuff too – when we told everybody we were moving to Perth, lots of people laughed in a mean way and said that Western Australia is backwards & boring, with “no culture”…well, so far, my humans haven’t found that at all! They’ve been having a great time going to lots of things – from sculpture exhibitions by the sea to open-air French cinema, from international writers’ festivals to gourmet breakfasts with spectacular views….who says Perth is boring?
And last week, they went out one night to watch the Soweto Gospel Choir who are touring Australia at the moment…
Oh, my humans said the Choir Humans had AMAZING voices and such wonderful Happy Energy as they sang and danced that Hsin-Yi said she almost thought about turning religious!
Of course, doggies are not allowed in the Perth Concert Hall so I didn’t get to go but Hsin-Yi said that since she hardly gets a chance to dress up nicely, in non-slobbery, non-dog clothes, she wanted to get some “nice photos” with me before they left the house that evening…
…and she wanted to get a family photo by self-timer too.So she got me to lie down and Paul sat next to me and she set up the camera machine, pushed the shutter button, scooped up Muesli and ran over to join us…and just before the shutter clicked, I decided to roll over onto my side! Since everybody was sort of leaning on me, we all fell over! And here is the photo
So there, you see? We don’t always get perfect self-timer photos…but as you can see, they’re still great fun!
Well! Finally before I go, I wanted to tell you about a fun contest that my blog friends, Echo & Link the French Husky-crosses are having! It is called the Silly Face Contest and yes, you guessed it, to enter, all you have to do is email them a picture of you with a silly face!
