Keeping busy…

Hi everybody – just a quick hello to let you all know that I’m still here! :-)

I’ve got so many adventures & cool things to tell you about (and I haven’t done that post yet about my Senior Doggie Exercise Programme!) but my human, Hsin-Yi, is still rushing to finish the 1st draft of her novel so she can’t help me blog much at the moment. She’s on Chapter 15 now, though, and nearly at the end….so I hope we’ll be back to blogging regularly again soon! 😛

And don’t worry – Hsin-Yi might be spending every free moment she has writing-writing-writing – but she’s still making sure that I’m keeping busy & having fun! Here are some of the things I’ve been doing recently, such as…

….taking time to smell the roses…

…hanging out with Muesli…

…working on the novel with Hsin-Yi…

…campus tours at the University of Western Australia…

…catching up on my beauty sleep…

…meeting up with friends…

…more hanging out with Muesli…

…doing some late-night shopping…

…catching some sun…

…helping to restock the pantry…

…and of course, enjoying the Perth sunsets! 😀

Big Honey Dog novel update:

Thanks again to everybody for putting up with us being anti-social while Hsin-Yi is writing her book!

Manuscript Progress:

Thank you to those who left comments with stupid Pit Bull myths – they’ll really help Hsin-Yi in writing the story! If anybody else knows any really ridiculous Pit Bull myths, we would love to hear from you. 😛 We know the usual ones like Pit Bulls having locking jaws and bigger bite strength and being “born mean” and unpredictable…but have you heard of any other really ridiculous ones? The more outlandish, the better! Thank you :-)

You are looking so great and happy these days Honey! Glad mom is making progress on her novel and still getting time to enjoy Perth!

    • bighoneydog says:

Aw, thanks Moose…by the way, did you see one of my previous posts about my humans going to the Aquarium of Western Australia? Hsin-Yi kept thinking of your human the whole time they were there and Hsin-Yi thought she would have liked to see the pictures. Anyway, if you missed it, here’s the link to it: http://www.bighoneydog.com/2013/04/aqwa-cityfarmers/

  2. Honey, I too have been so busy and want to apoligize for not commenting recently. I’ve read every word you wrote and always look forward to your posts. As a Mom to 6 pit bulls I always think I’ve heard it all and then someone pulls another ridiculous belief out of their hat. A few of the most ridiculous though are:

Oh your dog is so sweet but thankfully you never had children as they will just turn on you then.
Your dogs are all so sweet but you can’t trust them if you get them as adult dogs. (all but 1 of mine I got as rescues as adult dogs!)
Don’t ever look a pit bull straight in the eyes as they will attack you if you do
    and my favorite!
You never want to feed your pit bull raw meat or let them smell blood because it will flip a switch and they will become vicious!!

    • bighoneydog says:

Oh Diane – thank you SO much for these! They’re great! Well, as in they’ll be really useful in my story – not that they’re great in themselves! 😉 But they do illustrate perfectly the stupid things people will believe about Pit Bulls. Thanks again!

ps. oh my goodness, PLEASE don’t feel that you have to apologise for not commenting of anything! I am always honoured & touched when people take time out of their busy lives to leave a comment on the blog but I certainly don’t expect it – gosh, I feel bad since I’m struggling to visit & comment on our blog friends at the moment too – I’m being so anti-social at the moment that I haven’t had the time to visit anybody at all. So thank you for still checking in on us and for your lovely words! :-)

  3. One thing about blog buddies – we are always here :)

  4. Not really a myth but in the ice age when mommy was a kid, the neighbors dog name was Satin (she had shiny black fur like satin sheets).Anyway people always called the dog “Satan” because of pitbull scary myths.

  5. Blue-Sea says:

Hey Honey, so nice to see u enjoy Perth. The pictures you have posted are so lovely. And Hsin-Yi, nice to know your first draft is progressing really well. All the best. Love,

  6. Nightshade says:

So good to see that Hsin-Yi’s draft is progressing and getting to the end stage! We too are very busy: my humans are giving the garden a complete make-over which takes up a lot of work since we have such a big backyard; my best friend came to stay over last week and my humans said that I’m going to get a little puppy-sister in June. That’s all so very exciting, can’t wait to see her, show her around the house and garden and teach her all kinds of naughty things. :) :) :)

Over here people say lots of stupid things about pit bulls too, though pit bulls are actually really nice and sweet dogs. In fact, in my first puppy class, one of my best friends was a pit bull and we had loads of fun! He was the only one who wasn’t impressed by my size as a puppy and who really liked to play with me.
The things we usually hear, have already been mentioned by other blog readers, I guess; we very often hear stuff like “pit bulls can’t be trusted, they are bound to turn bad at a certain moment in their life”; … Besides, it’s not only pit bulls that have that kind of reputation over here, but also other breeds like American Staffords and Rottweilers.

Love the pictures of you keeping busy by the way, Honey. So good to see that you’re really enjoying Perth and that you’re helping your humans doing all sorts of things around the house!

    Slobbery kiss,

  7. We love the picture of you taking the time to smell the roses, Honey!

    Love ya lots♥
    Mitch and Molly

  8. Howdy Honey. It sounds like even though Hsin-Yi is busy writing that life has settled into a good routine. Loved all your photos, especially the one of you resting your head against the lounge. Rory does the same thing! Take care sweetie pie. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  9. Elena says:

What is Hsin-yi holding in her right hand in the restock the pantry picture? is it a drool towel? Maybe someone was thinking about eating the food instead of restocking it?

    Elena and Lyra the JRT

    • bighoneydog says:

Ha! Ha! Elena – you have very sharp eyes! YEs, there was quite a lot drooling going on during the “restocking of the pantry”!! 😉

  10. Dorothy S in Michigan says:

I enjoyed today’s pictures especially you with the roses and with your friend.

I don’t know much about Pit Bulls, but have sure met some nice ones. If I were getting another dog I would be reading books and blogs like this to see what kind would match my personality and lifestyle. In my case the lazier and more compliant the better. My lab was a stray. When I looked in her eyes I simply thought, “this is a dog I would like”, and I still do! The other was a relative’s dog who needed a home. So who would think I have a lab mix and Border collie mix, and get along fine! They are supposed to be dogs needing a lot of activity.

Hsin – Yi, I read Honey’s posts, but simply don’t comment because I don’t have anything to add, but I always enjoy reading about what everyone is doing. (I’m glad your writing is going well. Maybe there will be even more new books someday!)

  11. Samantha says:

So happy to have found your blog! I thought I had been here before but I actually had not. Got to love a Dane in freestyle. I have a doberman that is new to more “rally free” but it is basically free style work in the rally format. And yes, a non-traditional breed. So much for me to digest from a training perspective. Fantastic site! Sam

  12. deb says:

I just found your blog honey through your Youtube video with your human dancing on that sunday morning you wanted to sleep in. It was a wonderful video and your human and you are wonderful together. I love to see so much closeness and communication between humans and their 4legged friends it cheered me up. Wish your human a happy mothers day she makes a great companion for you!

  13. bubba says:

    dear honey;

well i am officially a farm dog now. its wonderful out here. i have so many places to run and play. the food is about the same. the big news is my mom came home with 2 kitty sisters for me. their names are rachel and leah but i call them “you suck” and “you suck two”. they wont let me get a good whiff of their butts…… and their food, which tastes delicious, is now out of my reach. i also caught mommy’s boyfriend giving “you suck” some ham. i didnt get any!!!!!!! i may have to go on strike. i thought moving to the farm meant we were going to get some smelly goats and a mini donkey for me to play with, not some prissy CATS!!!!! well other than the cats life is good. things look good for you too. your smile is still so beautiful.

    love from your florida boyfriend,

    • bighoneydog says:

Oh Bubba – how exciting that you have new kitty sisters!! (Although I love your names for them – ha! ha!) I think you’ll grow to love them – even if you won’t ever admit it! And I’m still so jealous of you being a farm dog – that is just the COOLEST thing!!! :-)

  14. dawn and mikey the grey hound says:

    Hi Honey and Hsin-Yi,

Mikey and I remembered another crazy Pit Bull myth– A Pit Bull can swallow a baby whole. I thought that one was outlandish because of all the bones, baby bits and diaper to get the job done in one big gulp.

I was thinking of a novel gift for Honey to sell in her shop—- A Honey Paw-tograph. I thought they could be cards that fold (I’ve done this one) “Have a Paw-some Birthday w/ dog photo,” or same caption with Honey’s paw print, or just a Paw-tograph on a postcard. I also thought Honey’s paw could go on the inside of a doggy bowl. Another caption, “Having a Paw-some time in Perth,” or just the paw that has “slobbers” on it. Just a crazy thought I would share ! Honey deserves to make a few bones for all she has done for her fans and who doesn’t want a celebrity paw print.

Have a good week Honey, Hsin-Yi, and Paul. I have been on crutches thirty one years and wanted to let Paul know he should be doing wrist stretches because with the use of the cane on a regular basis the tendons in the wrist get over worked and swollen, and we don’t want Paul to get Carpel Tunnel Syndrome. The stretches involve bending the hand backwards, pulling the fingers toward the back of your fore arm and then doing the reverse, pulling the fingers toward the inside of your arm.

Wishing you lots of creative writing energy.

Dawn and Mikey the Grey Hound (who went to the dog park for the first time since my mom has owned
him and he loved playing off leash w/doggy friends).

    • bighoneydog says:

Hi Dawn & Mikey – thanks for your lovely comment and all your helpful “silly Pit Bull myths”!

Thanks also for the suggestions to help Paul. We didn’t realise you’re on crutches and have been using them for so long. We will certainly tell Paul to be careful with his wrists!

      Honey sends slobbers –

      best wishes,

  15. Cheryl says:

Much better Hsin YI, I was trying several days ago as a friend wanted info on the Barf Diet and I was going to direct her here. It finally made it, just took a long time!

  16. Sheree says:

Hi Honey! It looks like you are having a wonderful time. I’m jealous! Hugs and whisker kisses from Miss Fishy

  17. Di says:

    Hey Honey!
We’re able to get on and view your site now. Had a hard time lately trying to view it this week. Love your blog!

  18. Well I had no idea other doggies like to stop and smell the roses too. We have something in common. Even with the busy schedule it looks like you are keeping pretty busy. I love your ocean sunset picture.

    • bighoneydog says:

Hi Mary – thanks for your comment! It’s always good to get both sides of the story. I know a lot of people would argue that these reports are examples of the media bias against Pit Bulls (ie. similar attacks by other breeds are ignored) – but at the same time, these are incidents that have genuinely happened so I can see your point of view too.

Anyway, thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! :-)

      best wishes,

  19. Jacky says:

Hi. No problem getting onto the blog. Been on a few times this week and once or twice it was slow to download – but that could be our server!

  20. cafall says:

We are excited about the novel and can’t wait to read it!

  21. Mango Momma says:

I am sure you are a great helper. I do miss having my Mango around to provide moral support when I have unpleasant tasks to do. Dex is not much good at the calm supportive role. He figures if I am down on the ground or moving about that it is playtime. Honey looks fantastic!
