Sisters in Oz…!

Whew! It’s so true when they say that “it never rains but it pours”! Just a few weeks after my human, Paul’s mummy went back to the faraway place called England, we had another special visitor from overseas: my other human, Hsin-Yi’s Baby Sister (HBS)!

Hsin-Yi is the oldest in her family and HBS is the youngest – there’s a 11 yr gap between them. The last time my humans saw her was in France, more than two years ago, when Hsin-Yi’s brother – who lives in Paris – got married and had a lovely wedding in Provence.

HBS usually lives in the faraway place called Dubai – she couldn’t get a lot of time off work so she could only stop in Perth for a few days, before going on to Sydney for a friend’s wedding – but we packed a lot into a short time! πŸ˜‰

Meeting HBS the night she arrived… Muesli is getting really good with visitors now – she just marched straight out to say hello!

Look at the cute way they served the breakfast muesli!

Went out to breakfast the first morning – look at the cute way they served the breakfast muesli!

My humans are so used to taking visitors to see the “Perth highlights” now – they said they feel like they’re operating a mini tourist agency – hee! hee!

This time, because it was late afternoon on a cool day, I got to go along to show HBS the view of Perth from Kings Park!

Because she always lives so far away from her BFF’s and her sisters (and keeps moving all the time so she keeps losing her friends!), Hsin-Yi always misses having someone to go out and do girlie things with. She’s always so envious of all those people who stay in one place and have lovely sisters or BFF’s (sometimes from school days!) to do fun things with all the time.

So it was so wonderful for her to have the chance to go on a girlie shopping trip with HBS!

Β Of course, I know you all like to see pictures of the YUMMIES! πŸ˜›

HBS has a real sweet tooth so my humans took her to the But we really are trying to catch up - it just might take us a while, so please forgive us! Oh, and in case you're wondering why I had all those weird shaved patches on my body - don't worry - they're were just done for my heart check-up recently, to make it easier for the ECG machine to listen to my heart! πŸ˜‰ I'll tell you more about that soon!    " target="_blank">San Churro chocolaterie – they do the most amazing desserts there, especially the chocolate fondues with fresh strawberries and churros – fried Spanish doughnut sticks!

Good thing they’ve got me to take HBS on a walk to work off all those calories – hee! Hee! Besides, no trip to Perth would be complete without seeing the Swan River up close…

Look! We were so lucky – we saw a dolphin in the river while out walking!!

… and no visit to Perth would be complete either without hitting one of the beaches and watching the sun set over the Indian Ocean!

But the highlight of the visit for HBS was a visit to Caversham Wildlife Park! You see, HBS always had a dream to see a wombat in real life…

…and guess what? She not only got to see one – she even got to pat one! πŸ˜€

Β Isn’t it adorable??

Wombats weren’t the only adorable things that HBS met… she also got to meet a young koala named Frederick!

Hsin-Yi says this photo gets her vote as “most adorable picture of the year”!

Of course, HBS also had to meet the most famous beastie of Australia – the kangaroo!

Can you see the joey’s tail sticking out of the pouch?

Ooh, they were very cheeky, the kangaroos, though – and real pigs! There was a big bin full of kangaroo yummies which you could help yourself from – well, Hsin-Yi had barely grabbed a handful when she was MOBBED!

I think somebody needs to teach those ‘roos some manners! πŸ˜‰

They were actually very gentle – even though they were grabbing with their paws – but Hsin-Yi said their claws didn’t hurt and they had very “soft mouths” πŸ˜‰ (She also said they seemed to be a bit – ahem – stupid. If she stepped around them, they would look totally befuddled and wouldn’t know how to turn around to find her! Still, they probably get so many Tourist Humans coming through and feeding them every day – they’re probably all really fat & lazy!)

It was still a really cool experience!

Well, even though HBS was only here aΒ  few days, I think she had a great time! She was very sorry to leave – and she really fell in love with Muesli (she loves kitties) so she was really going to miss her (yes, she even welcomed Muesli sleeping on her bed at night!! 😯 )

HBS said she’s going to start saving up money paper again so she can hopefully come back again to visit soon. πŸ˜› This was her first time to visit Australia and there was still so much she didn’t get to see so she definitely has to come back to see more of the country!

Well, life is slowly settling back to our old, normal routines and we’re trying to catch up with everything. I’m so sorry – I know we’ve fallen really behind with visiting your blogs again – Hsin-Yi has just been so busy with the release of Big Honey Dog Mysteries: Message in a Bauble (Christmas Special Edition) and then all our visitors and some other “stuff”… she hasn’t had time to help me visit any blog friends at all. :-( But we really are trying to catch up – it just might take us a while, so please forgive us!

Oh, and in case you’re wondering why I had all those weird shaved patches on my body – don’t worry – they were just done for my heart check-up recently, to make it easier for the ECG machine to listen to my heart! πŸ˜‰ I’ll tell you more about that soon!

  1. Does Honey always bring a stuffy in her mouth when guests come visiting? Lucy does that too. It’s like “hi, would you like to meet my stuffy?”

    • bighoneydog says:

Hi Paige – yes, Honey always greets anyone at the door with a stuffie in her mouth. She gets quite frantic if she can’t find one to carry! πŸ˜‰ How cute that Lucy does the same thing!

  2. Oh, what fun! I haven’t met any of our human relatives – they’re scattered all over the globe, too, apparently. I know your Hsin-Yi loved having her sister there!
My mom LOVED the wombat and the koala AND the kangaroos! I’m curious, though. I thought you didn’t get a treat anywhere unless you sat first – or if you’re over 13 like Zimmie. Were the roos “senior” roos? Or is this whole “you have to sit first thing” something my mom is making up?
    Yours sincerely,
    Margaret Thatcher

    • bighoneydog says:

Oh Maggie – I’ve always had to sit all my life for treats but you know what? Since I became a “senior doggie”, my humans seem to have gone soft – hee! hee! Now, they often seem to just give me treats for doing nothing!
I don’t think the kangaroos have ever learnt doggie manners like that first…although I suppose it’s hard to tell if they’re sitting or not – even when they’re standing, they’re sort of “sitting” on their tails! πŸ˜‰

      Honey the Great Dane

  3. I vote most adorable picture of the decade! Paul’s totem animal could well be a Frederick!

  4. DogsMom says:

If ever I should get your way I want your humans as my tour guides too!
    And you, of course.

  5. It looks like you all had a great time for visits from both family members!!!!!

    That wombat is awesome!

  6. what a wonderful visit…..it always makes Mom so homesick when she sees all the wonderful places you visit and she sure misses the food from back home. We wondered about the shave spots too…thanks for info at the end…we were worried :)

    • bighoneydog says:

Thanks for your comment, Reilly & Denny – we always think of your human when we’re doing an “Aussie-themed post”! πŸ˜‰

  7. Melanie & Grendel says:

Great pics, as always!! And I have to say that breakfast shot was the yummiest looking thing I’ve ever seen Paul eat :-). But what the heck is the little thing floating in the spoon next to his bowl?????

    • bighoneydog says:

Um…I have to say, I have no idea what’s in that spoon…I hadn’t even noticed until you pointed it out!! :-) I asked him and he can’t remember either. It sort of looks like maple syrup? Or maybe a bit of stewed prunes in juice? They seem to love serving that at breakfast here… (eeeuugghh!)

      • Melanie & Grendel says:

Stewed prunes would sort of explain it, I guess…. Better than my original thought, which was some sort of mutant anchovy….Seriously, look at the second pic of you all at breakfast — you can sort of see little tail fins sticking out of the spoon…. :-)

  8. hylasgirl says:

Oooh my gosh! You’re right on the cutest photo of the year… and the kangaroo one is pretty dang cute too! lol

  9. sara, oreo and chewy says:

What a fun time! The food looks delicious, and the animals are soooooo cute.

  10. phyllis says:

love that big ol wombat! I want to hug one!

  11. cafall says:

I didn’t realize wombats were that big! Is that normal? Is it like the kangaroos and well fed?

What a super visit! It’s nice your sister could stop by.

    Monty and Harlow

    • bighoneydog says:

Hi Monty & Harlow – yes, that is normal wombat size! :-) They are pretty big – they are sort of like a little pig crossed with a little bear, Hsin-Yi thinks… that one was a girl – the boys are even bigger! πŸ˜‰

  12. Hi Honey!
First I has to apologise again for not commenting lately! I does get to read your posts but Mum usually sneaks on her phone at work to read and so can’t type out a comment, or if we start we usually end up losing it! I has beed reading though!
The wombat looks so funny! Mum has always wanted to see one too, since they a character in her favourite silver brumby books. We get kangaroos in zoos but never things like wombats!
Thanks for showing us around and how nice for your Human to get to see her sister, even for a little while.
    ~Lickies, Ludo

  13. Kate Ice says:

Oh Honey, your posts so much make we want to visit Australia!! It’s actually the top country on my husband’s list of places he’d like to go, so maybe someday we can make it happen. πŸ˜€

Until then, thanks for letting us all live vicariously through you! It looks like you guys did a wonderful job of showing HBS all the best in just a few short days. You really should open your own touring company. You could call it:

Book your tour today and receive a complimentary copy of Big Honey Dog Mystery Series, Book #1, pawtographed by Honey, herself!
    * No purchase necessary. See human for details.

    I’m just sayin’ πŸ˜›

  14. dawn and mikey the grey hound says:

    Hi Honey,
You and your family are the best at hosting guests in Australia. Paul and Hsin-Yi know the best places to get yummy eats all around Perth. I am a big chocolate lover so I would love to go to the specialty chocolate store. I think the average girlie girl loves chocolate as much as she loves shoes.
I was surprised to learn that Hsin-Yi had brothers and sisters. I thought she was an only child because of the way she described going to school in America. I am happy to learn she has siblings. I think HBB looks most like Hsin-Yi than HBS. The brother and sister do have a similar smile. And boy, did Hsin-Yi have big smiles for HBS. It was nice to see her smiling so much. She looked so very happy. I think having to great visitors in a row will be inspiring for book writing. When she is stressed from typing and trying to come up with clever ideas for her story all she has to do is take a break and look at all her lovely photos from HBS and Paul’s mum, and get reinvigorated to write again.
Honey, I am glad to see you were being a big help with the calorie counting for the human’s. How nice of you to take HBS on walks after having lots of yummies. It is nice that HBS wasn’t afraid to walk you and hold your leash. HBS looked like a pro walking you at the park. Maybe one day she will get her own Great Dane. I don’t know how well a Great Dane would enjoy the heat of Dubai. I have never been to Dubai, but what little I know about Dubai is that it gets very very hot. Mikey the Greyhound’s breed is originally from Egypt. Egypt is a place that is hot, hot, hot, and Mikey the Greyhound is not fond of hot, hot, hot.
I had no idea humans could go into a pen and play with kangaroos. I would love to do that someday. Another thing to add to the bucket list. I wonder what would be on your Great Dane bucket list Honey. Big juicy bones, filet minon Friday’s, endless walks, Evian water for the dog bowl, puppy paw massages, and the list goes on. I bet you would have had fun with the kangaroos Honey. Hsin-Yi would only need to spend a few hours with the roos before they were whipped into shape and had the good manners of a Dane.
Yep, I loved the photo of Paul and his new Koala friend. Animals seem to really connect with Paul. I also liked the photo of Hsin-Yi and Paul. At first I panicked and thought Paul had lost his hand. His hand is missing in a few photos. It turns out the sleeve of his sweater is extra long. I had to scroll back to make sure there was not a permanent amputation that Hsin-Yi had not mentioned. But alas, all the digits are accounted for.
I noticed you had some fur missing on your side again Honey. Did you have to have a pain patch for your eye ouchie? I watched the video of the removal of your wart and that was on the top of your body. I hope you are okay HOney. It makes me sad that you get ouchies and have pain.
The girlies went shopping and didn’t include you? It would be hard to try on clothes and prance around the dressing room with a big puppy in tow I guess. I know I wouldn’t be able to do that with Mikey, in addition, he is a boy. I figured, you are a girl, and a bff, and you like sweets, so you might get to go along with the sisters. Hsin-Yi probably enjoyed some private time with her little sister. They were all smiles and giggles in the photos and good girlie girls are good at shopping. Some are even excellent at making dents in credit cards. Someone might have to sell a few more books after a big shopping trip with their sister.
Happy Hanukkah Honey! I don’t know if you celebrate both holidays in your family. Micah Roshashana (my mom’s Greyhound) celebrates Hanukkah. My mom forgot to celebrate his holiday and light candles for him because she celebrates Christmas. Mikey/micah will have to wait for me to come visit to help him celebrate is holiday. I will probably light one big candle and make Mikey the Greyhound one special meal. Instead of Hanukkah chocolate geldt Mikey will probably get a bone.
    Ciao and Slobbers,

    Dawn and Mikey the Greyhound

  15. dawn and mikey the grey hound says:

    Hi Honey,
I was curious about the photo of Hsin-Yi and HBS on a street in Perth that had a very European feel to it. The street was very narrow, with shops on both sides of the street and decorations above the street that attached to the buildings. It looked liked HBS and Hsin-Yi could have been in Italy by the way it looked. Hsin-Yi didn’t mention where they were in this photo. Do you have any idea Honey?
Holy cannoli, I thought the kangaroo was just a happy boy. I would never have guessed that what was sticking out of the kangaroo was a joey’s tail. I thought it was his kangaroo man bits and he was just very excited to see all of you. Thank you for the explanation. I have seen to much Animal Planet lately and assumed …….

    Dawn and Mikey the Greyhound

  16. dawn and mikey the grey hound says:

    Hi HOney,
Sorry about all the questions. I love Australia without even visiting. Aussie boys, Aussie Swimmers are my favorite. I am living vicariously through all of your visitors.
I reread your post and saw that you had a heart check up and that was why you had some fur removed. Can you hear me sighing. I am relieved you are okay and sans ouchies.
I was curious about the white kangaroos Honey. Are they Albino Kangaroos? For some reason you and your humans are super duper smart and have the answers to many of my many questions. I have never seen a white kangaroo ever. I am surprised the white roos have not been highlighted on animal television specials. I thought roos could be naughty and box you or even take a liking to you and try and snuggle. It looked like Hsin-Yi got all the hungary roos with bad manners. It did look like a lot of fun in the pen with all the kangaroos though. Hsin-Yi and Paul should open up a tour agency and make paper money showing people around Perth. One would never know that your Human’s are new to the area. They know all the good beaches, rivers, lakes, dog parks and most importantly, the best eats in all of Perth!
    Slobbers again,
    Dawn and Mikey the Greyhound

  17. Nightshade says:

It must have been wonderful that Hsin-Yi’s sister was staying over for a couple of days! Our humans have friends in different countries as well, so they know a little how it feels when you can’t see each other very often. Luckily the internet makes it possible nowadays to keep in touch and to see what the others are up to. :)

Such lovely pictures of all the excursions and food – especially those photos of the visit to the Wildlife Park! That photo of Paul with Frederick the koala is so adorable! :)

    Giant paws,
    Killian & Ophelia

  18. What a lovely visit! I’m so happy for you to have had a wonderful reunion with your sister. Two years is long time to be apart. Thanks for sharing all these amazing photographs. My goodness, I didn’t realize how big a wombat was! I always learn something from you.

BTW, I’m not trying to be intrusive, but I hope Paul is doing better. He looks good in the photos. :)

  19. The Count says:

You and you little kitty sis did a good job of welcoming HBS. What great poses with her. My little kitty sis is very social too. Mom says she has learned a lot from your family how to get started right. Mom’s really interested in that chocolate dessert place, especially the fried donut stix and chocolate to dip in. YUM!

    • bighoneydog says:

Oh, thank you so much for telling me about that! I didn’t realise until you told me and I’m delighted my book has been featured – hopefully it will help to spread the word even more. Thank you for taking the time to tell me! :-)

  20. Marjie says:

It’s so nice that you’ve had family come to visit recently. It must be hard living half a world away from all of your family. Hooray for the new book, too! Now I’m off to look it up!
